Branch History
Cr. an Choisellibhe was formed in 1975 by the late Rose Kelly R.I.P and her husband John, having moved to Knock to live from Claremorris where they were founder members of the Claremorris branch.
May Lyons and Julie Loftus were prominent members at this time and with their help a very successful County Fleadh was held in Balla Secondary School during the postal strike of 1979. Seamus Ó Dubhthaigh had also joined the branch in 1979 and he is still Secretary of Mayo County Board of C.C.E today.
The Branch also hosted County finals of Ceol an Gheimhridh in Urlár and the very last final of Ceol an Gheimhridh held by the county in Knock, Connacht Set dancing Finals where teams qualified to take part in Fleadh Amhrán agus Rince. Many all Ireland titles have been brought to the branch which include Ceol and Gheimhridh 4-hand Ceilí 1985, Fleadh agus Rince 1986-1998 Set dancing and Ceilí dancing, Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 1988 set dancing 1990 set dancing 1010 half set. Fleadh Nua 1998, Full set, Sean nós dancing.
Our members took part in Music Festivals in Aurray, France and were also part of a tour to Leeds and Germany. Every year our branch takes a trip to Clare Island for a family fun day out with a small Ceilí and party. We run Ceilithe na nÓg on a regular basis.
After the death of Rose Kelly R.I.P., it was decided to dedicate the branch to her memory and the branch is now called Cr an Choisdellibhe/Roisin bn Ui Cheallaigh. For the past number of years a festival called Féile Cnoc Mhuire is held in her honour.
