Branch History
An inaugural meeting was held in St. Joseph’s Community Centre, Clooniron on Wednesday 2nd February 1977 to form a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann in Kilmovee. The meeting was chaired by Mr Joe Smyth and 26 paid members were recorded. The subscription was 50p. The following officers were elected: Chair Joe Smyth, Vice Chair Michael McDermott, Secretary Michael Joe Caulfield, Treasurer Mrs Doherty, Auditor Mrs Eagney, Delegates to the County Board: Padraic Horan, Michael Joe Caulfield and Joe Smyth. The Chair recorded in the minutes that Kilmovee had traditional music in it’s heart and that by the formation of a branch of CCE in the parish, this rich musical inheritance from generations could be revived, stimulated and preserved for generations to come.
Today, we hope that in some way, we continue to carry on the work of that very first Committee of 43 years ago. Unfortunately, Sheosaimh Mhic Ghabhainn, Michael Joe Caulfield and Frank Keane have passed to their eternal reward. However, Ann Marie Rooney (Daughter of Michael Joe Caulfield) remains stedfast on our Committee as Chair and works relentlessly alongside Marian Egan, Malachy Egan, Johnny Towey and others to preserve and build on the Branch’s rich heritage
With the continued success of music classes on all instruments, a monthly seisiun na nÓg and regular Cois Tine nights, the CCE Branch in Killmovee continues to flourish. If you would like to be notified by text of our sessions, please send your name and number to 086 813 1686.
